Ketil Reitan
appears on BBC’s documentary series ”Blizzard. Race
to the Pole”.
A episod documentary about the race to the
South Pole between Robert Falcon Scott and Roald Amundsen in
1911. The reconstruction expedition was done on the Greenland
ice cap because the use of dogs has been banned in Antarctica.
Ketil Reitan has the leading dog musher on the Amundsen Team.
Rune Gjeldnes was the team leader and team members where Harald
Kippenes (navigator), Inge Solheim (front runner) and John Huston
(dog musher). The team cover the same distance as Amundsen, 2000
km, using the same food and equipment, seal skinn clothing, 48
Greenland Huskies, and navigation with sextant and compass.
The Amundsen
team competed against the British Team lead by Bruce Parry. The
brits started with 24 Greenland Huskies (like Scott), butt his
time without ponnies and motor sleds. The series has been aired
on BBC 2 and will come on History Channel and many other TV stations
